I wanted to share with all of you a crazy design undertaking that I just completed to try to make something of a tiny bathroom that we had in our house. This bathroom (before picture below), was as small as a closet with weird metal bars on the windows and felt a lot like a hospital bathroom when we moved in. After weeks of consideration on how to make this bathroom stand out, I realized that sometimes, being loud in your design principals in a small space CAN make it feel larger and create impact.
We wanted to play off the creepiness of this bathroom and the bars on the windows and decide to do a gothic twist with a play on Alice and Wonderland. The walls were painted white and then after measuring the entire space, we drew and painted out the black stripes. Throwing in bright purples and hot pinks through artwork that played off the theme was a way to still bring color in to the space without sacrificing the integrity of the concept. To take it one step further (because why not?!), we bought two oval mirrors and a wall decal of the Cheshire Cat and created the cat face with mirrors as eyes.
While I know this style is NOT for everyone, I thought it would be a great example for those out there who are stuck with a tiny bathroom and not sure how to give it life. I don't think you always have to go soft and neutral in a small space. We are so pleased with how it came out!
